For the courses above I used some training in innovative teaching techniques I received from Leslie Cook and Aaron Nydam at Teton Science Schools together with Erik Sterner at the University of Gothenburg. These techniques stress student centered learning involving flipped classrooms, peer-peer working and dynamic assessments.

It was quite successful: an anonymous survey after the course found 2/3rd of the class would highly or very highly recommend the course. I quote some feedback from students who took the 2021 Applied Policy Analysis class below:

It was really fun doing this course...the assignment activities and some in class activities really stand winners for me.

This was a fun paper.

Thank you so much for giving us assignments that forced us to go beyond just the theoretical models and applying, in the true sense of the word, our learnings.

I really enjoyed taking your course mainly because of your teaching style. It was a great learning experience.

Tanvi Garg, MSQE '19

Learning from groups activities and assignments with a little lenient grading actually helped me learn a lot while not stressing out too much about the grades...I think all of this will be really helpful in future for us. We all learned a lot.
